About IADC
Since 1940, the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) has exclusively represented the worldwide oil and gas drilling industry.
IADC’s vision is for the drilling industry to be recognized for its vital role in enabling the global economy and its high standards of safety, environmental stewardship and operational efficiency.
The Association’s primary areas of focus include:
- Advocating for sensible regulation
- Giving voice to our industry
- Improving safety and environmental protection
Membership is open to any company involved in oil and gas exploration, drilling or production, well servicing, oilfield manufacturing, or other rig-site services.
Organizational Structure & Governance
IADC is a 501(c)(6) non-profit member association, and is governed by a Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
The Board of Directors comprises employees of Drilling Contractor member companies who are elected annually. Responsibilities include confirming annual appointment of IADC’s Officers, reviewing significant organizational changes, and approving annual budget. The Executive Committee is a standing committee of the Board of Directors consisting of up to 21 Directors.

Committees
IADC boasts two types of committees – Standing and Divisional. Standing Committees are the legacy or founding committees of IADC, such as HSE and Tax. Divisional Committees have been created as the needs of our industry dictate, for a specific purpose or project. Some examples of Divisional Committees are Underbalanced Operations/Managed Pressure Drilling (UBO/MPD) and Supply Chain.

About IADC’s Membership
IADC’s contract-drilling members own most of the world’s land and offshore drilling units that drill the vast majority of the wells producing the planet’s oil and gas. IADC’s membership also includes oil-and-gas producers, and manufacturers and suppliers of oilfield equipment and services. Through conferences, training seminars, print and electronic publications, and a comprehensive network of technical publications, IADC continually fosters education and communication within the upstream petroleum industry.
IADC holds consultative status at the International Maritime Organization and observer status at the International Seabed Authority. The Association is a leader in developing standards for industry training, notably its Well Control Accreditation Program (WellSharp™) and rig-floor orientation program, RigPass®, among others. IADC is headquartered in Houston and is one of the city’s largest trade and professional associations. IADC also has offices in Washington D.C., the Netherlands, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, as well as chapters in the UK, Venezuela, Brazil, Australasia, South Central Asia, Southeast Asia, West Africa, the Middle East and across the United States.
