Well Control Institute Hosts Inaugural Executive Board Meeting
Houston, Texas (May 9, 2014) – The Well Control Institute (WCI) set its strategic initiatives at its inaugural Executive Board meeting on 7 May.
Founded in 2013, the WCI brings together industry stakeholders to develop the solutions that will impact well control. Through the development and implementation of new work products, the WCI expects to significantly improve human performance in well control.
Executive-level representatives from Petrobras, Shell International E&P, BP America, Murphy Oil, Precision Drilling, Noble Drilling, Maersk Drilling, Diamond Offshore, Seadrill, NOV, Cameron, Saudi Aramco, Helmerich & Payne and KCA Deutag came together to discuss and approve the Institute’s current slate of initiatives and strategic direction.
The Executive Board approved two main initiatives for WCI. These include the development and implementation of a new well control training standard and the development of a comprehensive map of well control improvement efforts worldwide. These initiatives are expected to completed and available to the industry by early 2015.
“This meeting was an historic opportunity to bring together executives from operators, drilling contractors, well service providers and equipment manufacturers to come together to discuss opportunities for significant improvements in well control. We believe that the leadership and collaboration of these key industry stakeholders positions the WCI to have a significant impact in improving human performance in well control worldwide,” said Cason Swindle, Executive Director, WCI.
